Tokyo’s hidden gem: Kiyosumi Gardens

I was so happy when a friend from my times at Rikkyo University texted me to meet up last weekend. Because I always tend to hit up the same areas when meeting a friend, I wanted to try new things and I asked her where and when she wanted to meet. She suggested Kiyosumi Shirakawa (I have to admit it took me a while to be able to remember the name of this place).

Our first stop were the Kiyosumi Gardens. I have no words to describe how beautiful this place was. Imagine a cute zen-feeling garden from a Ghibli film brought to real life. The fact that we were there when the sun was setting and the sky was getting darker, made the place feel even more magical. Every plant was trimmed very precisely and some trees had a beautiful red-orange-yellow colour. While crossing the pond over the rocks, I would get surrounded by koi fish popping their heads out of the water.

Even though these gardens aren’t too big, I definitely think it is worth everybody’s time when visiting Tokyo. It’s a beautiful location to shoot some pictures as well. This garden makes you feel very calm and serene in an otherwise hustling and bustling metropole.

All photo’s of me were taken by my talented friend Naomi. All others were taken by me.

I love how these bonzai trees are made into the shape of Christmas trees.
